The playable inmates of The Escapists 3 — official character art

The Escapists 3 is the prison-escape sandbox's first main-series entry since 2017 — and its first in full 3D. Team17 announced it on October 8, 2026 at the Triple-i Initiative showcase; it lands in 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2: five prisons, 120-plus craftable weapons, a new skill tree and four-player co-op, all tracked here from official sources.

What The Escapists 3 is

An inmate's daily routine wrapped around an escape puzzle. You live inside a prison — roll call, jobs, meals, rec time — and quietly turn the place against itself: stealing, trading, crafting junk into tools, digging, climbing, and picking your moment. In 3D that formula gains a physical dimension: stairs a guard can be pushed down, walls worth rappelling, rooftops that launch a hang glider. Five distinct prisons ship at launch — forests, canyons, catacombs and coastal waters among them — and none has a single solution.
